Boiler Repairs and Maintenance Options
As the saying goes ‘prevention is better than cure’ and within today’s tough economic climate there is never a more poignant phrase. So when you are looking at running your household and looking to save money in the long term, it is probably worthwhile considering what you would do if your boiler broke down.
There are many options available including replacement but this will be considered the most costly of all the options. It is therefore worthwhile considering a boiler repair and maintenance plan to give you peace of mind especially if your boiler is of a certain age that you want to keep it running for as long as possible.
There are many different boiler repair and maintenance options and policies available on the market but choosing the best one for you can be something of a minefield.
You will often find that all the large electricity companies offer different types of schemes as well as some independent traders however, what should you be looking for with the type of cover you want?
You will often find that prices vary considerably depending on the type of cover required and the type of system that you currently own. The type of cover will obviously depend on your needs and budget but here are some factors that you need to consider and keep in mind when choosing a policy to cover your boiler repair and maintenance.
Firstly, you will need to consider whether you want a repair and maintenance cover that only covers your boiler or one that also covers your central heating system. There will also be companies that offer to cover plumbing, drains and electrics, so you will need to decide on the level of cover you want to take out and find a company that covers all your chosen aspects.
Secondly, you should think about whether you want a plan that covers areas such as actual physical repairs to your boiler including parts and labour, a contribution towards a new boiler if a replacement boiler is the only option or the cost of the yearly servicing paid or an annual service carried out free of charge. It is important to ensure you know all your requirements.
Thirdly, you want to make sure that you get help and assistance when you need it such as requiring a 24 hour a day service that is run throughout the year. Many companies offer different types of emergency services, so you should make sure your definition of ‘emergency’ and ‘call out’ matches the one of your chosen company.
Fourthly, it is important to ensure that your boiler is covered by the repair and maintenance plan before you take it out. If a boiler is of a certain age you may find that it is not covered in the plan. If it is covered it will be essential to double-check that if and when it becomes of age that you will still be covered.
Finally, don’t forget to check the policy’s small print as it is unlikely to assume that unlimited cover will be provided to you and some companies will only pay for a certain level of costs or claims. Remember, choosing the best boiler repair and maintenance option is entirely based on your likely problems you foresee experiencing and if these are regular boiler issues, you should look to get fully covered.
