Whatever Happened to the Boiler Scrappage Scheme?
Unfortunately, like all government projects these days, the funding for the government’s boiler scrappage scheme eventually ran out before it had been live for six months.
Over 130,000 new boilers were fitted across Britain as a result of the scheme. However, while the government claims that the scheme was “very successful” in promoting awareness about boiler efficiency, many of us are still left with out-dated and inefficient boilers which are costing us a fortune.
But never fear! Although the government may have abandoned us in our plight for boiler efficiency (amongst other things!), there are still a number of energy companies out there who offer similar boiler scrappage schemes for us to take advantage of.
One of the biggest providers of a boiler scrappage scheme in the UK is British Gas. British Gas seems to offer boiler scrappage schemes for short intervals throughout the year. The scheme offers new and existing British Gas customers the chance to trade in their current boiler. Despite the obvious marketing magic that this offer will sprinkle onto the popularity and customer numbers of British Gas, it does genuinely seem to be a great offer. Sooner or later, you’ll have to upgrade your boiler to one that’s more efficient – why not do it when you can save money? Seems logical to me! Especially when gas prices are set to rise higher than ever come 2012...
Other energy companies who offer boiler scrappage schemes with similar deals are Npower, E.On and Scottish & Southern.
