British Gas leads the way in boilers
It would only logical to expect that British Gas, the UK's longest established and largest energy supplier would be the place to go if you were looking to change your gas boiler. Or even buy one for the first time.
If you were thinking of comparing the virtues of a gas boiler to an electric boiler for example, you would probably think that the next step in your comparison shopping list would be to find an alternative supplier of electric powered boiler either online or off, yet you would be going to a lot of trouble for nothing.
That's because British Gas have placed themselves in the pole position as suppliers and fitters of both gas and electric boiler in the UK.
Once you have established that fact the next step is choosing which form of power suits your needs best. Electric boilers are undoubtedly less expensive to buy than gas. However gas is a cheaper form of energy than electricity so for those families that are interested in taking the long term view, it is worth knowing that, according to statistics, an average UK family will make up the cost difference between a gas and electrically powered boiler with around 42 months.
Most people these days have learned to work on a budget and that energy can form a considerable percentage of it. No matter which power supply you opt for, it is always a worthwhile exercise to apportion a fixed monthly sum as your energy budget. These days energy suppliers will provide a fairly itemised account, and if it is above your budget, you will be able to quickly recognise which energy areas you are going over the top in, and be able to cut back next month. Also you should look very carefully at your fluctuating costs over the year, and not just during the height of summer or in the middle of a freezing winter.
Another thing that should be taken into account, especially for the long term planners, is the cost of maintaining your boiler. Boilers that British Gas supply will come with a warranty, usually for 12 months. After that honeymoon period is over, you should be looking to have a maintenance contract already in place. That way you will avoid unexpected costs as well as making sure that your gas boiler is performing its duty in your home.
