How to Claim your UK Government Subsidy and Replace your Old Gas Boiler
There must have been at least 130,000 families in the UK yesterday asking them the same question. Couldn't Brown and Darling have arranged their £400 replacement budget subsidies about six months ago, and maybe we could have replaced our boilers before the winter. But that would have been too good to be true, and those eligible will need to wait till next year to take advantage of the scheme, which is now being matched with a further £400 by those UK consumers who choose to replace their boiler through British Gas.
However due to the unprecedented demand that is expected as those who are eligible to take part in the scheme rush to see it completed long before next winter, it would be a prudent move for all of those concerned to set the wheels in motion and first of all to understand what the scheme entails. The first stage is to find found out if your boiler qualifies for replacement, by visiting the Energy Saving Trust website . You will need to provide information on your existing boiler that will help the authorities to decide if you are eligible to receive a replacement. A spokesperson for the Energy Saving Trust pointed out that a good way of testing that a gas boilers is in the G-rated boiler category is to see if it has a permanent pilot light, Gas fired over 15 years old, are more than likely to be eligible as well as oil fired boiler that are over 25 years old.
If your request is approved you will then be issued with a voucher for the £400 subsidy, which can only be renewed when the job has been completed and the voucher to the Energy Saving Trust accompanied by an invoice, and only once the work has been completed. Any money laid out will be returned within 25 working days after the invoice has been submitted.
While there are a number of other alternatives, none of them come close to the attractive offer that British Gas has made to the UK consumer. A spokesman from British Gas hastened to point out that as the country’s leading installer of energy-efficient boilers, British Gas have calculated that replacing new boilers will help to reduce fuel bills by as much as £235 a year.
