Consumers Demand Informed Choices,
British Gas Delivers
There was once a time when consumers placed unquestioning trust in product and service providers. They believed that these businesses had their best interest at heart and that the items or services they were purchasing would be good quality and reasonably priced. That time has passed and consumers are becoming better informed and more selective about how they spend their money.
Companies, like British Gas, are embracing the shift in consumer independence and empowering their customers to make informed choices about energy delivery and consumption.
This model for working with the intelligent and independent consumer is viewed by many as a revolution of marketing. After all, it is not common, with today’s business mentality, to find a company that helps customers consume less and pay less.
In order to help ensure that their customers have all of the information they need to manage their home energy consumption British Gas has invested heavily in the EnergySmart™ program – a service feature that is Free to new and existing customers and could help save each home up to £150 a year.
In preparation for the service’s launch, British Gas began a hiring program to train 2,100* Smart Energy Experts. These customer service and energy experts will:
- Install Free electricity monitors in the homes of EnergySmart™ customers.
- Conduct energy efficiency audits of the customers’ homes.
- Help consumers make sense of the range of tariffs available and advise how to best take advantage of them for maximum savings.
- Provide advice on generating energy at home.
- Maintain close connections with EnergySmart™ customers to ensure that they are always well informed of new innovations that can help reduce energy consumption and save money.
Trials of smart metering were conducted earlier this year with results indicating that these meters, along with supportive services, do allow customers to make significant reductions in their energy costs.
Currently, the EnergySmart™ program is offered as an option for British Gas customers, allowing them to choose whether to participate in the Free service or not.
