Don't take chances! Hire the Services of a Professional for your Gas and Electric Maintenance Problems
Home maintenance is far from being everybody's forte, so when something goes wrong with a domestic appliance, or even more so, a water heater or central heating system, the only path to take is to hire the services of a certified professional to discover the cause of the problem and then repair it.
These days there is no shortage of sources to seek out an electrician or heating engineer, either in the local papers or online. However no matter the hype, you should set yourself up with a check list to make sure that this company is the one for you before making any form of commitment and certainly before you part with any of your hard earned cash.
The first and most important criterion is to ensure that the companies you will be employing are certified to do the job. After all, you trust them to take care of some pretty expensive and sensitive pieces of equipment that could have an effect on you and your family's safety.
Once that matter is out of the way, you should insist on a fixed press quote, with a breakdown of parts and labour, including hourly rates. If the cost of the parts involved are high, do a price comparison online and let the potential contractor know that you are doing so, you will be surprised how often they will match if not beat the online price
.
It's always best to work with a contractor that you know, have worked with in the past and been satisfied with or on the back of a recommendation of a friend or family member. If they were completely satisfied with the level of service they received, then you should make contact with this company without letting them know that they come recommended, at least before the job is clinched.
No matter how or who you choose, makes sure that the company guarantees its work and if so, for how long? A sign of a service company that takes themselves seriously these days is if they have a website. If they do, take whatever time you need to check them out, especially if they have a terms and conditions page.
Making up a check list and sticking to it may appear to be a bit "nit picking" but sadly there are too many people who made the mistake of trusting non-professionals to carry out repairs and paid a heavy price for it.
