Is taking an electric shower something that you might consider?

In these days where energy innovations are very much a focus of attention and everything seems fair and reasonable when it comes to reducing costs, the notion of taking an electric shower might not seem quite so absurd.

Before everyone's imagination starts to run riot, nobody is suggesting that you should take showers in electricity, but instead to switch to a shower where the water is electrically heated, using a pretty smart integral heating unit where the water that passes through it is heated automatically and pretty quickly too.

Where electric showers come into their own is when the existing shower facilities in a home are not sufficient, and the home owner has to weigh up the pros and cons of installing a new shower and hooking it up to existing water heating system with all the upheaval that will bring or putting up a stand-alone unit that entail a lot less.

While the unit cost of operating an electrically powered shower unit will always be higher than that of a shower hooked up to a gas heated water system, as long as the shower is not in use around the clock, there will be a very fine line as far as overall costs are concerned.

Many potential users shy clear from the concept of electric showers because they have had bad experiences with water pressure rates, which in the past have been difficult to control. These days thankfully are now over, as today's electrically powered shower head heaters come with two settings, one for controlling pressure and the other for moderating the temperature of the water, for those who prefer their showers to be either too hot or too cold.

One of the downsides of an electrically heated shower head, dependant on how you look at it, is that water supply is far from unlimited especially if you like your showers hot and long. An electric shower will need to be more or less the opposite, as the tanks can usually only hold enough water for this purpose and re-heat times are far from impressive.

Electrically heated shower heads are a welcome addition to the arsenal of energy savers, popular for their ease of installation and cost effectiveness. Whether they are everybody's cup of tea still remains to be seen.
