UK British Gas central heating
One- off Central Heating and Boiler Repairs

When it comes to heating, think about keeping it under your floor boards

Something that is on most people's minds in the UK these days is how to keep warm. There are a lot of ways from burning all your furniture in a huge bonfire in the centre of your living room at home ( not recommended) to installing a gas fired central heating system ( highly recommended). In recent years, there has been a major upsurge in interest in installing under floor heating, with many families switching to this method.

In the simplest of terms, under floor heating operates on the principal that instead of having warm water pumped through the home to radiators it remains in a network of under floor piping that keeps the floor in all the rooms heated to the maximum, as well as making its way gradually to radiators if need be.

While the concept of under floor heating might sound very appealing to moist people, it has one major stumbling block, and that is that installing under floor heating is best done while the house is being built, as the amount of upheaval that will be caused to a family while the installation process is going on will be considerable, much more so than when a conventional central heating system is being applied. A family considering installing under floor heating will have to take into account that their home will be in a state of total disruption for maybe weeks on end. If the installation can take place while the family is on holiday, then the inconvenience will be minimised.

For those who have made the decision to install under floor heating, the decision is worth it. The feeling of heat under their feet has long since compensated for any inconvenience caused during the installation. For people who suffer from asthma, under floor heating are very beneficial as warm air emitters can dry out a lot of the air in the room.

On the downside, under floor heating will take a long time to heat up if the pipes have been embedded in a solid floor. The time differences between a heating system that has been installed under a wooden floor and a concrete floor can be measured in hours, while it can also take around the same time to cool down. With the increased interest in under floor heating in recent years, a special non-concrete based screed has been developed that will allow for a considerable improvement in heating conducting facilities of any floor.

Obviously the decision to install under floor heating is a big one and should not be taken lightly. If the idea appeals to you, why not arrange a consultation with your local British Gas office and find out if under floor heating could be for you.
