Fridges also need to perform in the winter
Everyone must have heard the tale by now about the Alaskan who used to pop into his fridge in order to warm up a little, and in wintry Britain that joke doesn't seem so far-fetched as it once was. It may seem ludicrous to talk about fridges in the mist of winter, but winters eventually come to an end.
Those who like to plan ahead a little might earn themselves a real bargain by shopping for a new fridge or freezer when the season is really off peak.
The truth is that you might never know when it comes the time to replace a fridge or freezer. The decision is usually only made when one or both of these vital domestic appliances start to cause problems, and that will be only when the sun starts to pop its head out of the clouds. If your fridge has been with you for more than ten years, and especially so, if it is in its teens, then you need to think that its days are numbered. Getting sentimental about a fridge can be a dangerous and costly exercise. Just like people in warm countries buy stoves and heaters in the summer, then people in the UK need to get used to buying their fridges when the snow is heaped up on the pavement. Thanks to the wonder of the internet you can do your comparison shopping online, and purchase and pay for your new fridge or freezer without leaving the warmth and safety of your own home.
What you should also take into account is that fridges and freezers will use twenty percent of the total energy consumption of an average household, year in year out. With energy costs on the rise, now is the time to say bye to your existing fridge and/or freezer, and replace it with a new one, that will not only be a lot better to look at, make considerably less noise but will also use so much less electricity.
Set yourself a target of saving money on the purchase and add that to the energy savings that you are liable to make over the next ten to fifteen years at least that your new fridge will be around, and you will see how much you are saving. At the same time think about the positive impact on the environment your will be making.
