Embrace the Future - Green Electricity is on its way

You would need to be living in an igloo somewhere near the North Pole not to be aware of the problems of global warming and the rapid shrinking of the World's natural assets which have been used for the last few centuries to heat and warm the UK home. Well these assets are not only running out they are also considered the main factor in burning a hole in the Earth's ozone liner, which in turns has been regarded as among the main causes this much feared phenomenon of global warming.

Researchers have been working with increasing intensity to find a solution to this linked problem and have come up with some interesting solutions. While it is more than likely that most people reading this article will not need to get used to the idea that our sources of energy have changed. On the other hand, it is re-assuring to know that the future of our children and grandchildren are being taking care of.

Currently in the UK, about two thirds of the electricity that we consume is generated by burning coal and gas in these massive power stations, usually situated in fairly desolate areas around our coast lines. Nuclear power supplies the remainder which while cleaner, is not without its environmental impacts.

The future will be driven by green electricity whose sources will not cause any major impact upon the environment, with the cleanest energy sources utilising the natural energy flows of the Earth. Known as renewable energy sources, if properly harnessed, they will never run out. The only downside of switching to green electricity is that the more efficient the method the longer it takes and the more expensive it is to establish the foundations.

However as soon as the foundations have been put in place the cost of running the systems will be negligible.

One of the best known methods of generating green energy is by harnessing the power of the sun to heat water, something that will not suit the UK climate in general, although some success has already been noted in the South of England where the temperature is warmer in the summer. Hydro-electric power has been around for a very long time, yet its potential has never really been maximized.

Many experts see more of a future in wave power, and much research has already been carried out as to how best use the tremendous energy power of the sea, with no specific results reported as yet. Many say that the eventual answer will come from the massive wind turbines to be constructed of the North coast of the UK over the next decade of so. This is going to be a truly massive investment, yet one that has proven to be very tangible in other parts of the World.

Wind power could well be the answer, and it would be interesting to be around in another hundred years or so to witness the end result.
