Choosing a Heating System for Your Home
Replacing or renewing your central heating system can be expensive, stressful and chaotic. That’s why it’s important that you choose the right central heating system first time – you don’t want to have to go through the installation process twice!
It is highly recommended that before making any decisions about changing your central heating system, you invite a surveyor into your home – they’ll be able to give you an educated, professional opinion about what kind of heating system will work for you. Even better, it’s usually for free! In the meantime, here’s a short guide to the different types of heating systems, in order to give you a rough idea of what might work the best in your home.
1. Condensing boiler heating
A condensing boiler system is the most popular way to heat homes in Britain because it’s efficient and affordable for all types of budgets. This system provides hot water on demand, thanks to its link to the mains power supply. A condensing boiler system is also a great space-saver, as you don’t need a hot water cylinder or a storage tank, making it great for smaller houses or even flats.
2. System boiler heating
System boiler central heating does need a hot water cylinder, but it doesn’t require a storage tank, meaning it takes up less space than other types of central heating systems. In addition, most system boilers have their components built in, which takes a lot of hassle out of the otherwise complicated installation.
3. Conventional heating
This is perhaps the least efficient central heating system, because lots of pipes are used to transport the water from one component in the system to the next, and your water loses a lot of heat as it moves. In addition, this system takes up the most space in your house, as it requires both a hot water cylinder and a storage tank.
