Install a Programmable Thermostat and watch the Energy Bills go down
The world of technology is moving forward at a frightening pace; making it difficult to imagine what kind of world we will be living in in the coming years. This new generation of technology is all around us, sometimes too much so. Yet there are many areas where the contribution that it can make is largely unobtrusive, being largely unknown and unrecognized.
One of these areas is in the world of energy, particularly relating to heat control thermostats. While thermostats have been around for years now, the digitally powered programmable version is new face and a welcome one at that. If truth be told a non programmable thermostat served very little purpose and could only be used by those people with sufficient discipline to learn and take the time to operate it. A pre-digital age thermostat only performed at its best when the owners took the trouble to switch the thermostat on or off, If not the heating systems or water heaters would be left alone and the heating bills would mount up with pity. All this is history because these days even the most technically challenged person can learn how to operate and program a digital thermostat in minutes. And the investment in a programmable thermostat and the time taken to get used to it will be returned in record time.
Programmable thermostats cam be used to create schedules that will operate central heating systems, water heaters or air conditioners, that can be opened or closed to suit your family’s needs. And these thermostats can be re-programmed monthly, weekly or even daily to suit the fluctuations of the family's schedule and/or seasons of the year.
Thermostats have now been fine tuned to such an extent that they can now be programmed or a program updated from a lap top computer or IPhone. That means that you get some surprise news of overnight guests, you can update the program for that day only from your office or in the car.
Yes we are living in an exciting age, and we should do our very best to take maximum advantage of it. Setting up a programmable system to control our energy and its costs should be among the first steps.
