I've never been so insulated!
While there is a lot of discussion and debate about which form of energy does the best job, either gas, electricity, solar or oil. After that argument has been settled, the next area of discussion might well be which type of boiler best suits my particular framework, and so it goes on.
All of these decisions have to be made in order to heat a home, but none of them will really matter if all the heat that is generated is allowed to run out of the windows and doors, and even the walls of the home you are trying to heat.
What we are attempting to do when we heat our home is to warm up and maintain our bodies at a certain temperature, for the good of our health as well as that of our loved ones.
For those members of the UK public that haven't realized it yet, our winters are getting colder. There are some experts who say that the global temperature has changed and will never return to what it was, while others, and hopefully those who know better, are saying that this global weather change is only part of a natural trough. A trough that will end soon and we will return to a more normal climate that will be easier to live with.
Until that happens, we will need to be much more aware that heating our homes for these increasingly severe winters is not a game, and every means of keeping on top of the situation has to be taken.
For that reason, insuring that the home has been properly insulated is vital, as it will be invaluable in preserving the heat that has been generated. The cost of providing proper for home need not be too considerable, and a lot less than what it has cost to generate it.
The older the property the less the level of insulation, and may families will receive a bit of a shock when they set out to discover how much it will cost them to install proper insulation.
What they should remember is that when it comes to issues of health and comfort, money should be less of a consideration. The simple fact is that having to make sure that a decent insulation in your home could well involve a major investment, and one that will only be recovered long term.
Yet when you can say to yourself "I've never been so insulated" it will all be worthwhile.
