Nuclear Horrors Reignited
The unfortunate nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, horrors of nuclear energy have bared their face to the world once again. The lethal power of nuclear energy and the catastrophe that it can bring about in case of an accident has become all the more clearer. With that the UK government is left to reconsider its energy production options.
Oil and gas reserves are dwindling, energy supply is a major concern. The government has been looking at increasing production of nuclear power which would have allowed the UK to meet its low carbon emission levels, as a part of countrywide environmental regulation plans but with the disaster in Japan this is now very much under review and there is massive opposition on grounds of the energy being too dangerous and a nightmare to deal with once spent.
Although energy bills can be driven down by using nuclear power, it also has great environmental risks, and in case of a mishap could lead to the deterioration of the ecosystem. There is now ever increasing fear that nuclear power can rapidly become an unstable energy source and can result in horrifying consequences.
British Gas and Centrica may face a setback once the government rolls back its plans of further investments in nuclear energy production, along with also cutting down on current energy provision ratio of nuclear power because its ugly side far outweighs its benefits.
As luck would have it, the current nuclear power plants have recently had no serious incidents in the UK yet we cannot ignore the potential problems it could cause if it gets out of control. If harnessed well, nuclear power could greatly benefit us by providing a cleaner atmosphere.
This would be possible through the curtailment of carbon emissions because nuclear power is one of the cleanest fuels.
