Oil-fired heating pricing itself out of the market

The UK is in the grip of its second tough winter in a row. Lessons have to be learned from these difficult days. The first is that mankind cannot control the weather as well as the materials that can be used to heat our homes and businesses when temperatures reach the extremes that they have, with no guarantees that winters in the British Isles will be any less hostile in years to come.

It doesn't matter whether it is electricity or gas, energy costs look like being on constant increase mode, with the UK public needing to face that energy costs will be a larger part of their budget than it has been. One fact that has become acknowledged over the last few months is that oil -fired heating pricing is too far away from being a financial proposition and has virtually priced itself out of the market.

While homeowners will need to closely examine the realities of using any of the energy sources at their disposal, but it will take a major turnaround to convince those members of the UK public placed their trust in heating oil. With the relentless increases in crude oil prices, currently creeping close to $90 a barrel, it is tantamount to financial suicide to continue to use this once very popular method of home heating.

While the relative upheaval that it may cause to switch heating materials may be too late for this winter, those who have installed oil fired boilers will need to arrive at a painful decision. Either to invest in renewing their boiler so that it will be capable of operating either under gas or electricity, with gas being the most obvious choice for an average family home, or continue to pay through the nose for heating oil.

The reason why gas heating will better suit those who once placed their faith in oil, is that gas still remains by far and away the cheapest source of heating material. The outlay in converting to gas should be recovered fairly quickly by energy savings, and for those who care about the environment, gas is a lot friendlier than oil.

Don't let all that smoke coming out of your oil fired boiler blind you to the fact that heating with oil is as dead as a dodo, and gas is the best long term solution for keeping your energy bills reasonably in check.
