Advantages and Disadvantages of Open Vent
System Boilers
For home owners, choosing which boiler best suits their needs can be a complicated business. Apart from taking into account the costs involved other considerations such as space availability, quantities of hot water required and most importantly these days, how economic the boiler will be to operate.
Open vent system boilers is a system that should be considered, but only by home owners who have a lot of space to play with, as it requires two hot water tanks as well as one hot water storage cylinder. For the open vent system to function at its maximum capability, it is best that the two water tanks are located in the loft area of the property, and if possible, the hot water cylinder also/ If there is insufficient space, then the cylinder could be located in a downstairs storeroom or even the basement of the property.
The water from the tanks is used to feed to the storage cylinder which is heated by the boiler. The heated water is then distributed, either for showers, washing dishes etc as well as to heat radiators during the winter months.
The water tank which are located in the loft area, are known as feed and expansion tanks. The rolls of these tanks are to maintain the ultimate water levels that the heating system is required, especially when the heat is turned on in the house. This means that the open vent boiler system is capable of drawing consistent levels of water even when showers, taps and water heaters are switched on. Open Vent System Boilers are synchronized so that the hot water level in all the taps and showers will be at a constant level, and even when a person is showering the water levels in the rest of the houses facilities will not be affected.
For people with large houses and families to match, the open vent system boilers is an alternative worth considering. As ever the costs of running this type of system has o be considered, and it can work out fairly cheaply for a family who need a lot of hot water. Another advantage is that as the need for water begins to fall, then it is possible to take one of the water storage tanks out of the loop, and save some space and money.
