There are ways to make you save money on your electricity bill
Even the most conscious of the UK householders who is well involved in the battle to keep costs under control especially those pertaining to energy will have long since created a personal profile of their energy usage over the year. That is sound fiscal thinking and means when their electricity of gas bill arrives, either by e-mail or land mail, there are no unpleasant surprises.
On the other side of the coin, there are very rarely pleasant surprises. That means that the bill rarely goes down, and the consumer never troubles to discover why or if there are ways to reduce it. They have fallen into the trap of becoming complacent with the statistics that have gathered.
It has been established that the average UK households with four souls will use 70 Kws per person annually at £6 pence per Kw, which adds up to £1,800 in total. That means when the electricity bill comes, it should be around £300, taking into account that it should be less in the summer and more in the winter.
Breaking down the bill into sub totals will give a very clear picture of where the energy consumption is going, and if there is any way of cutting back on costs.
Based on an average bi-monthly account of £300, below is a pretty average estimate of where the costs are split.
Heating and Cooling: £120
Heating Water: £35
Lighting: £35
Computers and Electronics: £30
Electrical Appliances : £30
Refrigeration : £25
Other : £25
With the electricity utility suppliers adding to their services by providing costs breakdowns it is possible to analyse the percentages and see if there are any areas where a family is spending more than the average on costs, and making an effort to reduce them.
The most popular reasons for electricity usage and costs getting out of contrail are the old favourites of lights left burning, televisions and computer screens running when they could be switched off, washing machines, dryers, being operated during peak hours when they can be just as easily be in use during off peak hours when the tariffs are much lower.
Narrowing down energy wastage is vitally important and there is no reason why a few pounds every month can't be whittled from the account, and a whole new set of statistics created.
