More simple tips to save energy while keeping warm
Now that winter has really taken a grip and much earlier than last winter, there will be a lot of UK families who will be taking a long look at their energy budget and shaking their heads. With energy costs on the increase, many will find it difficult to stretch costs further.
That will entail looking at the energy problem from an entirely different angle and squeezing the maximum value out of every drop of energy that will be laid out over this difficult winter, and no stone should be left unturned or tap not turned off in the battle to keep inside an energy budget.
There are a lot of items that a lot of families miss out on when they consider energy cuts is the cost of heating water, which a tremendous amount goes to waste. Switching off taps when the water is running unnecessarily might sound trivial, but it can save a lot. Hand washing dishes may no longer be fashionable, but certainly cost effective when you discover how much energy a dish washer uses up.
It’s a known fact that washing machines also use up copious amounts of energy consumers of energy, and householders should carefully plan how to use them not only during the budget conscious months of winter but all year round. While it may not fit everyone member of the family's schedule, especially the more fashion conscious ones, to plan a washing only when the machine is full, the cost savings can be considerable. Washing clothes and using a spin dryer should only be done during off-peak hours, and in an emergency situation draping a few clothes over a warm radiator is also perfectly excusable.
There may still be time to make some one-off investments that will help to keep costs under control over the winter. If you have an electric driven water heater, take a minute or two to examine its heating elements, even though you might be convinced that it is operating at its maximum efficiency. You might discover that a build-up of lime/calcium has formed around the element meaning that it cannot operate at its best during the winter. The lay out on a new element will be very little, and any local handymen will be able to change it for you in a matter of minutes if you are not that way inclined.
All of these measures, and many more, will help that energy budget stretch even further without causing too much discomfort.
