Storage tank water heaters can be a vital tool in keeping energy costs down
It's always wise to keep something in reverse, even if it is just a little hot water. These days when every penny counts, fiscal planning is the order of the day. Energy saving is one of the most important aspects of our lives, and those UK families who have a water heater lined up to a storage tank can save a load of money, as long as they get their planning right.
As their name suggests, storage tank water heaters have been produced with the intention of heating a specific quantity of water, keeping it warm for a set period, due to the insulation qualities of the tank.
Water storage is an ideal solution for any size of family, with the main consideration being matching the size of the tank to the size of the family as well as their needs. If a family's hot water needs are spread out over a whole 24 hour cycle, with large gaps in between, then storing hot water may not be a financial proposition.
However an average British family will usually find that their hot water consumption is based around four or five hours a day, Peak periods for water use are usually in the late afternoon and early evening.
If you feel that a storage tank water heater will suit your needs, you will need to figure out which size of tank best suits your requirements. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that you should try and tailor the size of the tanks to your daily needs, taking into account that your family and your needs may be subject to fluctuation over the next few years, so take that into account.
For larger families who like to bath or shower within a tight time frame then that should be a factor in your calculations as well as how many domestic appliances need to be operated in conjunction. It is always a good idea to operate dishwashers, washing machines and so on during off peak hours, with the cost savings made being considerable.
The most important common denominator running through the decision making should be deciding that while the water will remain hot for hours on end, it will eventually cool down and re-heating the water will involve unnecessary costs.
