Things you should take care of Before and After you Switch Energy Suppliers
It's often easier said than done, but switching your energy supplier should not be too complicated if you decide that what you will be getting from your new energy supplier will be better than that from the one you have just left. Otherwise you will have achieved nothing. You should never make the mistake of switching suppliers on price only. Other features you should also be taking into account are service, range of services and how much easier your new supplier will make life for you. Once you have moved, you should always bear in mind that there is a way back if your new supplier looks like they won't be coming up to your expectations.
According to UK regulation, consumers have seven business days to change their mind from the date that their application to the new supplier was accepted. Known as the “cooling off period” this option is there to protect the consumer against broken promises.
Assuming that everything goes well with the switch, the next stage is to take all relevant meter readings so you can give these to your new gas and electricity suppliers. By law any outstanding gas and electricity bills need to be fully paid up before moving to a new energy supplier.
Consumers who were working on estimated accounts, especially for a long time, are entitled to ask for their account to be reviewed and a statement sent to them. If they have overpaid during the period, the current energy supplier is obliged to return the money back in cash.
A new supplier should mean new lines of credit and new payment methods. Increasingly more UK consumers are switching of paying their accounts through direct debits. There are two types of direct debits available to settle your energy bills. The first is a fixed direct debit means, which many find convenient because they know exactly how much they will need to l pay each month. The downside is that if the amount of energy being used is above the estimate, they might find themselves getting a very big bill out of the blue. That's why most people through a direct debit according to their gas and electricity bills they will eliminate unpleasant surprises.
Most people in the UK these days are either computer literate or have a family member who is. That means that they can check their bills online and be aware if they are going over budget. Switching to a supplier that offers this option is a must.
