New Boiler Grants

Modern, energy efficient new boilers are not expensive in relative terms, but if yours breaks down at the wrong time, it can seem like a fortune to replace it.

But there is quite a lot of help available when it comes to installing a new boiler, such as a boiler grant, or an energy efficiency grant. These are provided by the government, or by the energy suppliers.

Government grants are comparatively generous, because they are keen for people to switch to new, highly energy efficient boilers. Initiatives such as the Warm Front can provide grants whether you own your own home, or rent it. It all depends if you qualify for one of the grants in terms of your financial situation, but there are a number of schemes available which could see you towards a grant of up to £4,000 for improvements from insulation upgrades to a new central heating system.

Visit www.WarmFront.co.uk , or by call 0800 316 2805 for further information.

Another good place to visit is The Energy Saving Trust www.energysavingtrust.org.uk as they provide a wealth of information on how to apply for a number of grants and schemes.

As to who qualifies, there is a long list of benefits that could make you eligible for help. These include:

  • Disability living allowance
  • Pension credit
  • Attendance allowance
  • Council tax benefit
  • Housing benefit
  • Income support
  • Income based job seeker allowance
  • War disablement pension (which includes either mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance)
  • Disablement pension ( which includes constant attendance allowance)
  • Child Tax credit (where relevant income is £15,592 or less)
  • Working Tax credit (where relevant income is £15, 592 or less).

But it’s not only the government that can help with installing a new boiler. The energy companies can provide help, although mainly in the shape of finance options.

British Gas, for example, offers various financing options under their scheme called Flexible Finance, but you do have to look at the rate charged for such finance, which could be more expensive than acquiring a loan elsewhere on more advantageous terms.

But with loans getting trickier to arrange (at the time of writing), an energy supplier such as British Gas might be the best option, especially if they offer any other incentives.

So, if installing a new boiler has become a priority, have a good look around and see what help you can get.
