British Gas: About Gas and Electricity
As the largest domestic energy supplier in the UK, with over 11 million gas customers and 6 million electricity customers, British Gas works hard to provide all their clients with competitive energy prices.
British Gas have now reduced their prices
As you may have seen in the news, the wholesale price of gas has been falling steadily and British Gas are now in a position to pass this onto their customers. British Gas know that their customers were concerned by last year’s price rises and they have been working hard to bring prices down as soon as possible.
The world’s oil and gas markets are volatile with the wholesale price of gas doubling during 2008 and although they’ve now declined, the bulk of gas and power for this winter was bought much earlier when wholesale prices were still high. Buying gas in advance, whilst protecting you from the volatility of the wholesale market, does mean there’s a time lag of a few months before wholesale price movements, up or down, are passed on to customers. But British Gas are committed to looking after all their customers, and if wholesale prices continue to fall, you can count on British Gas to reduce their prices as soon as they can.

- Constructing a LNG terminal at Milford Haven
