Back Boilers
Back boilers are no longer installed due to changes in the Building Regulations. They are now replaced with High Efficiency boilers that will drastically reduce fuel bills and also improve safety.
Back boilers were fit to the back of a fireplace or room heater. A new boiler, on the other hand, will typically be wall mounted and positioned in a different room. This allows you to choose a new fire and or surround for your fireplace. |

Back boilers required an air vent fitted to ensure that the fumes from the boiler escape and do become trapped in the room. These vents create a nuisance with draughts and noise, but they are also not enough protection to ensure that the boiler’s fumes will not poison the air in the room. These pieces of antiquity need to be replaced in accordance with current UK building codes.
If you currently own a back boiler, British Gas can help update your home with a safer and more cost effective solution.
