Bathroom Renovation
You have decided to renovate your bathroom. The colours have been selected, the fixtures have been purchased, and you are hoping to have a brand new hide away in less than a week.
While you may think that you have considered every detail about your bathroom design, don't forget about the important features lying behind the well-painted walls. Plumbing is a major component of a bathroom renovation and can result in costly mistakes if not handled properly. |

Start with the Plumber
Before you become too attached to a new state-of-the-art tub or toilet, speak with a plumber to learn about what features your plumbing system can support. Having a plumber visit your home before you begin your renovation plan can save you a lot of money and hassle in the end.
For example, your plumber will be able to advise you on whether it is worth replacing an old boiler at the same time to accommodate a shower system, which would be more economical to run. They can also let you know which products and fixtures are the highest quality, and which ones create problems.
Plumber and Electrician Team
In addition to the plumbing consideration you will also have to consult an electrician if your renovation involves major changes. Ask your plumber if they have an electrician with whom they work regularly.
Having a plumber and electrician who will work well as a team can save you labour costs through better coordination. Many jobs have to be completed in the right order, with the plumber and electrician working through different stages. A team that co-ordinate themselves will save you the hassle and the risks of skipped stages and revisits.
What is Cavity Space?
"Cavity space" is the empty space in the walls and below the floor. This is the place that pipes, wires, and fittings are housed. By having a plumber assess your room before you begin the renovation, you will know what your cavity space situation is and which fixtures it can support.
Saving Money
You can save money on labour and parts by trying to keep the plumbing and electrical tasks to a minimal. Putting your new sink, toilet, and tub in the same place as they were before is a big cost saver.
Incorporate as many original fixtures into the new design as possible. Unless you have a keen desire for everything to be completely new, a beautiful "new-looking" bathroom can be created on a tight budget by reusing some of the original features. For example, instead of replacing the entire vanity, fixing the original basin with a new facet and mirror can create a very dramatic change at a fraction of the cost.
Of course, don't forget about energy and water efficiency in your design plans. Now is the perfect time to upgrade your toilet, tub, and lights with more environmentally options.
